INTRODUCTION
1.1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING INTRODUCTION
The library is the nerve center of educational institutions especially universities. It is also a crucial center in the educational development of man at any level and more particularly so in any academic pursuit. Time is invaluable in any research hence it is pertinent for one to know low to for friend out where he wants in the library quickly and easy for the development of library and information services as on a rapid movement becoming more and more complex.
The output of information which has researched or exponential rate need to be properly organized for use by students, scholars and researchers in various areas of knowledge. No matter how minute ones area of study or research may be, it is impossible to cover any sizable amount of published works in the area not to take of covering all. To this end, if the student as well as “the researcher will mean or few task common library practical he well save time and avoid much frustration.
Since it has been down out that many study rely on enthusiasm and tenacity to cover the table of adequate knowledge in their daily exploration into the technical knowledge of library methods the facilitate their effective use of the library.
Among the important activities of a computerized and manual library systems are available recorded knowledge for information the reader.
However there are methods that are used by librarian to manage their activities among which are manual, mechanical and electronic. Computerized library system electronic is by far faster, easies to implement than other manual method.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
One of the basic functions of the library is to match information needed by the user with information content of document. This library services have to find way and means of accommodating the information requirement of their readers. Scholars today required access to the recorded knowledge and information that is expanding with no end in sight. This has resulted to higher demand in library services.
The library service has problem of offering error fee and timely information. Their ability to secure and disseminate information with higher degree of accuracy and on time has not been maximized.
There is as well the problem of spending much time in making summary records of resources been out (like books and vide) and resources returned by the users and manual calculation of charges for over due resources with accurate and fasten calculation of charges.
In addition this study was carried but in order to provide better financial analysis in the area of budgeting and expenditure and to take of job scheduling.
1.3 AIMS AND OBJECTIVE
The aims and objectives of the new system are to:-
Enhance an online public access services in the library provide an up to date records for reservation, lending and returning of resources.
Automate registration procedures provide an accurate, reliable and desired information with the management in decision making especially in the areas of budgeting and expenditure.
1.4 DELIMITATIONS
The computerized of library system is broad due to several sections and department that make it up and all the technical requirements for achieving such computerization for the reason, this study is base only on the administration aspect of library with emphasis on library operation.
It excludes cataloging and its method of acquisition and reservation, audio cassettes, reference, staff recruitment and maintenance, salary structuring in terms of pay role computerization workers training method and staff inter-relationship is not within the scope of this study moreover, the distance information provision service (OP) and coupon scheme are not included in this study.
1.5 CONSTRAINTS
This project work was limited greatly by lack of research materials and the unfriendly attitude of the staff. For the fact that the semester was so short and coupled with the sort time for project submission, the researcher could not visit all her proposed libraries for book conclusion. Finance was another hindrance to the work because of scarcity of such in the state the time the project work carried out.
1.6 DEFINITIONS OF TERMINOLOGY LIBRARY
A place books are kept. It serves the functions of collection records of people thought and deeds and pressure those records and make them available when needed.
OVER-OUT RESOURCES
It is a situation where the library material stays more then, the maximum days appointed in the hand of the user without renewal or returning.
